  • Describe the major venous anatomical variants
  • Normal venous haemodynamics Function of the venous endothelium
  • Conservative treatments Indications for treatment for varicose veins
  • Complications of varicose veins Examination of the venous system of the lower limbs
  • Select patients who require treatment
  • Non-operative management

Recurrent Varicose Veins

To show ability to assess and manage recurrent varicose veins

  • Aetiology of recurrent varicose veins
  • Assessment by examination and appropriate investigations
  • Selection of patients for treatment

Complications

To show ability to assess and manage the complications of varicose veins

  • Complications of varicose veins:
  • Varicose eczema, phlebitis, bleeding, ulceration, malignancy
  • Appropriate investigations
  • Investigation by duplex ultrasound
  • Non-operative management methods: support hosiery
  • 4 layer bandaging, skin grafting
  • Operative treatment and indications
